FEATURES
In racing, integrated with the Topline bus, it improves the accuracy of true wind angle and speed by correcting the wind measurements for the boat’s heel.
When the boat heels, the anemometer sensor reels spin slower. The actual wind is no longer perpendicular, the pressure on the reels decreases, and thus the wind speed is pessimistic. The heel calculation allows to correct the apparent wind speed and therefore all the calculations for the real wind. For example, if the angle of heel is not taken into account, we detect an error of 2.5° on the angle of the real wind at 25° of heel.
Under pilot, the system uses the boat acceleration data to apply a correction on the compass heading
The combination of the 9X Compass with a Gyropilot (gyrometer integrated) enhances the pilot performance. A standard fluxgate compass does not provide the boat’s acceleration data. Therefore, there is a damping for compass heading data in order to get a stable value; otherwise it would not be useable. The integrated gyrometer in the autopilot partly compensates for this but with clean data coming from the 9X Compass, the performance is even better.
